The Habs lose another against the Bolts

After very good first period dominated by the Habs, we end up losing a third game in a row. And again, its the Lecavalier-St.Louis duo who beats us once more. After cheering for them during the All-Star game, Habs fans are now frustrated to see them defeat the Canadiens in a 5-3 win. Other than the Bolts duo superstars, Mike Smith played an important role. He was extremely solid during the first period to keep the score to only 2-1, especially on that 3 against 1 break where he litteraly robbed Robert Lang from sure goal. The Bolts has also done a great job defending during the 2-man penality kill and didn't give much opportunity to the Habs to score. I would say that it was the turning point where the game was played. If the Canadiens could've capitalized on these chances in the first period, the score would've been 3-1, and the Lightnings would be out of the game. Instead, they retreated to the dressing room with only a one goal deficit and confidence. In the 2nd period, Lecavalier scored a quick goal for them to tie it and got the momentum going. After that, the Bolts got 2 lucky bounces and scored. The Habs couldn't get back into the game and were dominated by the Bolts. The next game, the Habs play against the Panthers on thurday night. It will be another though game to play for the players and a tough game to watch for us Habs fans. Let's hope we come out with the W.

All-Stars Game Best Moments

What an awesome All-Star Game weekend! I have to say it has been a good while that we haven't have that much fun watching it. In the past years, there was nothing exciting about the All-Star Game. But this year is different, for the centennial of the Montreal Canadiens, we get to see the ASG in Montreal. Some of the most memorable moments of this weekend is the players put aside their rivalry and all becomes friends to celebrate this event...so does Malkin and Ovechkin. They seems to be bests friends again!! hehe and Ovy wins the breakaway event. Big Z breaks the record for the hardest shot with 105.4!!! I'm not a big fan of him, but I gotta admit that this guy can shoot hard. I won't want to be in front of his shot. I wonder how the goalies does it. Malkin wins the accuracy shooting event with a 4/4 and a 3/4 over Heatley All the Habs that participated to the All-Star Game Kovy scores in shootout against Roberto Luango. And wins the MVP truck of the All-Star Game with 2 goals and 1 assist.

Last night's Habs vs Thrashers game

The game was so frustrating to watch last night. The Habs wasn't present at all in the beginning of the game. The Thrashers could do whatever they want in the Canadiens' zone. On top of that, Halak let in two very easy goals, which didn't help the team much. Could it be possible that the return of Carey Price in the lineup have affected his game play? It seems as if he plays better hockey when there isn't much pressure on him. On the third goal, you can't really blame Halak. Hammer fell on the ice with another Thrasher player and the puck just slide underneath him. If you look carefully at the replay, you can even see a little bit of interference from the Thrashers player. The player's skates hits Halak's pads and unable him to make the save. I kind of feel sorry for Halak that it had to end that way, because he played very well during Price's absence. After Carbo decided to change goaltender, we were able to capitalize on the Powerplay and score a quick goal. The second goal was a very lucky goal when Steve Begin redirected Patrice Brisebois' shot with his skates. Thank god that we scored those two goals in the second period and came back into the game. In the third period, we had many good scoring chances but just couldn't finish the job. Unfornately for us, Kari Lehtonen was on top of his game and made many crucial saves and kept his team's lead. I was very disappointed in the way the Habs played last night. I thought they would be very hungry on the puck and more aggressive after knowing that the Bruins have lost their games the other day. We have an excellent opportunity to reduce the gap between them and be only 7pts apart if we win these two games we have in hand. On a more positive note, I like the way Pacioretty played. He played a very physical and intensive game last night. In fact, he seems to be the only player on the ice for his line, we didn't see Kovalev or Pleckanec at all...they were almost invisible. He knows that Koivu and Higgins are very close to getting back in the lineup, and this shows that he really wants to stay. Good job kid! Keep up the good work and you'll be with team. The only good news for the Habs after this disappointing lost, is that we have another game tonight and they can get back to winning again and forget about this lost. So, let's hope for an excellent performance from the Canadiens. Good game everyone.

Halak vs Thrashers, then Price vs Devils.

With no surprise, Carbo have decided to put Halak in the net against the Thrashers and gave the Devil's game to Price. The lineup stays unchanged, therefore Saku, Higgins and Chichura won't be dressed for tonight's game.

Koivu and Higgins back in practice

The captain and assistant captain are back from their injuries and training with the team. We are starting to have an overload of players on the team, and Carbo will have some hard decisions to make since the team is doing so well right now. Who is going to be sent back down to Hamilton? Chipchura, Pacioretty, D’agostini or Stewart? How are the lines going to be? What about their ice time? It will be interesting to see how Carbo deals with this situation because it is a positive problem that all coaches would love to have. I think the Habs had a pretty good opportunity to evaluate their young prospect during the absence of veteran players. Pacioretty and D’agostini have done well and have impressed a lot of people proving that they can play in the NHL. Stewart had done great in his only game. As for Chipchura, I was a little disappointed by his performance. I don’t expect him to contribute offensively, but at least show me some intensity. I will not be surprised if Chipchura and Stewart are the first to go back down to Hamilton when Saku and Higgins are ready to go play. As for the lines, since Lang’s and Lapierre’s line are doing so great, I’m sure they will stay intact. Even if Plecky’s line is not contributing as much as we hope so, but I don’t think Carbo will do any change with them yet. Therefore, Saku will most likely play with Higgins and D’agostini. We would have four awesome lines that can contribute offensively!!! Just by looking at the lineup, I am scared for the opposing teams. How are they going to go against our lines? They won’t know which lines to watch out for since anyone of them can score. The best is still to come Habs fans!! GO HABS GO!!

Carey getting better

Well isn't that a good news, I've been wondering how long his ankle injury is going to last. Not that I have doubts about Jaro, he's been very solid the last few games. But in the long run, your team cannot play without your number one goaltender. I also find it curious that he is suddenly getting better after the declaration of Guy Carbonneau to the press the other day. Recommending Price to not participate in the All-Star Game if he hasn't played a game first. And I agree with that, it doesn't make since to play in the All-Star Game and have the possibility to worsen your injury. I am sure that the Montreal fans will forgive him if he misses the game and understand that it is the right decision to make. We would rather see him miss a game with no meaning on the standings and have him well recovered to play the rest of the season and the playoffs.

About the last game versus the Preds, lets face it, the game was pretty boring. It was so boring that even the players fell asleep. There was little scoring chances, almost no action at all. To the point where we almost let this one slip away from us. The only exciting part of the game was the last few seconds when the Habs had an empty net to shoot in and couldn’t burry it. Kovalev, Markov and Lang all missed the empty net. Funny thing is, Carbo made the players practice their shooting in an empty net during the practice session afterwards. Let's hope we would get a better game tonight versus the Sens who won their last two games. We can't underestimate them. Even though they had a terrible season so far, their top line can still do heavy damage and surprise us in games like this. The Habs have to be prepared and play hard against them. Go Habs Go!

Lecavalier rumors

Wow!!! During the whole week we were hearing Lecavalier rumors all over the place everywhere in the newspapers, radio, TV shows. The whole city went crazy to the possibility of finally getting a french superstar here ever since Patrick Roy. Heck even I got excited to the idea of him wearing the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge. Of course, we have all heard about rumors of Vinny coming to Montreal before, But I have never took them seriously because there were never any real indication that he would leave Tampa Bay. I put myself in his place and wondered : "Would I want to leave a place where I am very well respected, makes lots of money, no media presence, sunny weather?". I mean, that's like the perfect working environment, who won't want to work there if you get to chance? But this time, its all different, every indication shows that he is getting traded. First, the financial situation that the bolts are currently in makes Vinny's 11 years $85 millions contract a burden for this team. He is the player with the greatest value and we know that the Lightnings are trying to save money. If you are saying : "But hey!! What about Marty St-Louis??". Well, we all know he doesn't have the same value as Vinny does. The bolts' direction would want to clear as much money as possible for the greatest return in term of assets. The only way to do that is to trade Lecavalier. Another sign which indicates that this is serious, is the fact that Vinny himself is affect by the rumors. How often do you see that happening? An athlete admitting in an interview that the last few days was terrible for him because of the rumors. There must be something serious that was told to him by someone within the organization or from his agent indicating that he has been shopped by Lawton. These two point alone make me realized that this is serious stuff, not just some fabricated rumors. And I didn't even mention Brian Lawton's declaration in all this. Saying that there are no players who are untouchable when you have a franchise player such as Lecavalier who just signed a 11 years contract this summer is just a big stab in the back. If I was in Vinny's shoes, I would be so frustrated that I would ask to be traded immediately. I am not saying that he would be a Habs, but for the first time ever, we have a serious chance in getting him.

Habs vs Bruins

About last night's game...I thought our Habs did pretty good, we showed them that we can compete with anyone in the league and especially with the best of the league. We deserved the win last night, but this is hockey, the best team on the ice doesn't necessarily mean the winner team. If it wasn't because of two powerplay goals from the giant Chara, the habs could've easily come up with the W. And on Chara's second goal, it went off Markov's stick before going in, how lucky was that. I also think that Andrei's 5 minutes major penalty shouldn't been called by the referee. It was a bad call. We can all see on the replay that Aaron Ward turned his back to the play, and Andrei even slowed down before hitting him...Besides if that penalty was considered an attempt to injure another player, why didn't he get a 10 minutes for unsportsmanlike misconduct? By the way, Thomas also got away lucky with only 2min penalty, I thought he deserved more. Until the next game, Bruins, our top line and number one goalie will be back and we will crush you like we have all season last year. :D
