Today's Habs Rumors

As we are only one day from the draft, there are many rumors running around today. Here are the latest rumors.

According to The Gazette Pat Hickey, Saku Koivu wants to stay with the Montreal Canadiens next season. Hickey also believes that Vincent Lecavalier will not be traded, he explains that the Lightnings owners agreed that by trading Lecavalier would be a serious blow to their marketing. The current rumors are that the Habs are interested in Patrick Marleau or Daniel Briere. Source

According to TSN Darren Dreger, there are currently five teams that are in negociation with the Florida Panthers for Jay Bouwmeester's rights. It will cost the teams a 3rd round pick just to be able to talk to him, if that team is successful in signing him, the price could be a first round pick. Source

From The Fourth Period, The Sun-Sentinel claims that the Montreal Canadiens are very interested in Jay Bouwmeester's negociation rights. Source

From CKAC, the radio station have learned that the Montreal Canadiens are currently working on a plan A which would exclude all current unrestricted free agents except Mike Komisarek. According to many sources, almost all of the UFA have not received any phone call from the organization in the past few weeks. Only Mike Komisarek is currently in negociation with Bob Gainey. Source

Eklund claims that some Habs players have heard that their teammates are being prepared to be traded to the Lightnings. Source

According to RDS, Bob Gainey will negociate with unrestricted free agents Saku Koivu, Alex Tanguay, Mike Komisarek, Alex Kovalev and Mathieu Schneider after the draft. The other UFAs have received a message from the Canadiens that they will not be back next season. Source
